Whoever fits the hat
Chapter 9: Steam City
The front door of the abandoned dormitory flung open under the force of the captain's kick. She strode in with frustration.
"Did you get the train tickets, captain?" asked Dottie, standing next to Herring Finn. Blazingtail was in the background, busying himself with pots and pans.
"No!" Daenelia shouted, "the station only opens twice a week!" She kicked the nearest crate, but still looked annoyed. "And, my first mate just quit on me!"
"Well, get another one." suggested Finn.
"Mmm" replied Daenelia. "There's no-one else I can really think of."
"Uhhh" interrupted Dottie.
"Nothing, captain, just clearing my throat."
"Don't! I don't want you coughing all the way through the night"
"Oh, come on Captain" said Finn with a grin. "You must be able to think of another first mate."
"Well, I suppose I could ask Dottie. Dottie!"
"Captain!" squealed Dottie with delight.
"Can you think of another first mate?"
"Well... captain, one name does spring to mind."
"Yes, But I can't ask McGinty. He's just the swabbie and besides, I need a friend, an equal, an old and trusty companion."
Dottie quivered. "I think there is one person in the crew who fits the description."
The captain's eyes grew wide. "Of course... Blazingtail! How do you fancy putting on a pirate hat and being my first mate?"
"Captain" interjected Finn. "You know perfectly well who Dottie is referring to."
"All right." nodded Daenelia. "I'm sorry. I'll go and find her."
