Mission: Chapter 9: Steam City
"Mannaggia!" Orsola held a hand to her heart and sighed with relief. "Che minchia. Cornuto!"
Leftheris escorted her to a nearby bench outside. He felt her shoulders shake with stress. "I don't know what got into him. We were never that close, but he always seemed nice. It's this town."
"Not like that matters." She still clutched her only weapon, a simple dog calling whistle. "Ya know I can't go back in there, right? I mentioned mutiny to the man who told the captain about what she thought was a mutiny threat, she shot that defenseless man in the face. I'm not goin' in that buildin'."
He opened his mouth to try to tell her that nothing would happen to her, but knew he wouldn't believe his words. "I'll get your bags."
"Ennio!" She quickly blew the whistle to see her big lumbering dog run quickly to her, his tongue hanging from his mouth. He put his front paws on her lap and licked her. "Oh thank God. If anyone hurt a hair on your head I don't know what I would do."
"What do you plan to do now?"
"I just came to the Old West to map stuff and explore. There's a lot ta see and do here. Never been in the inland. Faizel asked me to join, was goin' ta tell him no, but he mentioned Goldilocks. She's an old friend of mine. She's not here, there's no reason for me to be either. Somethin' bad is goin' to happen. It's goin' to get worse. I like livin'." He noticed that she didn't call Faizel 'Buttons' like in the past and spat out his name.
"I agree. It will get worse. I feel it in my bones. I'm a gunner, there is nothing for me here anyway. Care for company?" Leftheris smiled.
Orsola grinned, "I'd love that. It gets lonely out there."
"I'll escort you to a hotel, get us separate rooms, and get our bags."
"Thanks, Angel Wings."
He looked at her confused, "Angel Wings? I thought I was Butter."
"I gave ya an upgrade." She smiled.
He reached and held her hand. It was a simple small gesture, but as she squeezed his hand, they both felt more of a connection to each other and humanity as a whole than they had in years.
