I don't particularly like mince pies, it is not a Dutch thing. But for Five it seems to herald Christmas.   For me, it has to be proper christmas-shaped chocolate. Like: little xmas trees. With sprinkles.

I also really like sprouts, so we include it in the christmas meal ... and they actually get eaten!

What is stuff you really need to eat at Christmas?

EVERYTHING.

I'd list all the things I need to eat at Christmas, but that would take too long. I live in the Deep South, so when it comes to this time of year we do it up big, at least when it comes to food.

Navel oranges is one thing though. And tangerines. And sweet potato pie. And ham.

But my absolute favorite thing is Christmas Cookies ice cream. This regional ice cream company, Blue Bell, makes it. It's vanillay, and it has chunks of sugar cookies and snickerdoodles and chocolate chips and sprinkles in it and it is amazing. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any this year, alas.

I am still looking forward to roasting some big slab of meat. With bones and/or ribs. I have never done that before.

Making this:

And this:

And sprouts and meat in dough.

But it is the BFG that is going to be ... awesome and challenging.
