Concerning migrating birds, it's more that you can't chase them while they come. Because, in his mind, they do a long travel, chasing them from the steam hawk before they regain some strengh, is like condamn a entire colony to death.
It can be develop on a post :)

But no problem about hunting on coast. Just not on sky.

Hi there!

I wan't to find someone who wan't to play something a little bit different than usually expected.

I search someone (one or more in fact) with wich one(s) I could play some clash about cultural matters. Clash that could evolve to a relation based on mutual respect (may be frienship, may be hate, may be competitive relation, but still mutual respect) but constant opposition about how to do one thing's or another.

Some idea about what can be the first opposition :

-Sahka came from poor and savage (and coastal) land, so wasting ressource (like shoot on empty bottle, poor tools maintenance,...), disrespect with bird (for that, I just had a good plot idea that i will post on tchat!) and other stuff like that can be good.
- Some comon sense of justice can be different too (but i didnt know how and what).
- May be religion matters

-I didn't know if someone here play a tainted people. For some reason (read backstory) Sahka wary them. And may be he can clash one. But in that case, he will be more aggressive, and less respectfull.

Sahka didn't already had close relationship with other teammate. He likes people with good awarness of their surroundings.

For love story, that would be hard, for two reason :
1) He did'nt had exactly the same vision of how member of a couple should act with the other. Not the same custom/culture. Especially for the seduction part.
2) More important, he's just out of mourning for a very strong story (see backstory). And may be he didn't had already forgett his feeling for his missing lover.

So may be more a close friendship than something else.

Sahka is directly inspired by "Dersou Ouzala" a real person describe in an book, and after in a kurosawa's film. A clever person may already guess that, because his last name are : Mounzouk, take from maksim Mounzouk, the name of the actor who play Dersou.

In avatar world, Sahka is an air bender (with an hight score on fire too).

What is your first test?

General Chat / Steampunk film series, and anime
« on: July 11, 2012, 08:35:34 PM »
Hi there.

so, let's open a new subjet about, i guess, a favorite type of fiction unniverse for many of us.

I begin with some of my favorite Anime in a steampunk universe:

At first, last Exile a anime serie with plenty of charm and good idea. Rather than give the synopsis, i prefer give you some point of the setting (wikipedia, with some anti-spoil cut):

"Last Exile is set on the fictional world of Prester. Prester's two nations of Anatoray and Disith are separated by a turbulent region of the sky known as the Grand Stream and are engaged in eternal conflict according to the code of chivalric warfare. A superior faction known as the Guild enforces these rules (this faction had a very advanced technology, more like space opera than steam punk). It also provides the two nations with technology (only steampunk type of technology).
Although the story is set in the future, the technology employed differs from that in a typical space opera. Instead, the show's retro-futuristic setting resembles nineteenth century Europe at the height of the Industrial Revolution. Inhabitants of Prester operate aerial vehicles known as vanships in the world's Golden Age of Aviation; it should be noted that although the technology is primitive, the aerial vehicles use a form of antigravity and lighter-than-air methods of flight than the use of wings.

Various scenes in the series also show existing tension between the upper and lower classes. Anatoray's nobility and military officers generally believe that commoners do not understand their codes of chivalry. On the other hand, the lower class also despise the aristocracy for their monopoly on resources. This tension extends to the accessibility of clean water, which varies in price according to purity grades.

The series introduces viewers to a wide range of naval and military vocabulary. More primitive navigational methods such as dead reckoning and instruments such as the sextant are also used in the series."

Interesting isn't it?

Second, my favorite anime : Laputa  also named castle in the sky (Miyazaki oeuvre)

How to describe how marvelous this anim is. Action, humor, great scenario, great animation, all the best element of steampunk (with also air pirate, air ship battle,...) In fact, if i have join this board, that's partly due to this film. every time i see it, i fly in the clood seeking the mysterious city of laputa.
(and you know what, last exile borowed some idea of this anime)

I don't say more, and let you discovered this one. Or may be just this song

The last (for today) i'm not very sure if we can describe this as steampunk, but i can't resist to speak of this one.
In film, now, there is the magnificient terry gilliam's munchausen baron! extraordinaire is the word for describe this one (even if i prefer Laputa). A little bit of Terry gilliam's touch, a little more of fantasy, add poetry and you have this film.

Well, i'm quite embarassed. Game of throne have a good story, but...

- Gameplay is awfull for only one very bad thing: Camera. the character always occupe half of the screen, with feet at the bottom, and the head at the top.
- The story is very good... but very very directed, we have many choice to do, but it finally does not change many things. And the four different end... are determine by two set of two choice in the last chapter. All the others choice don't change any things in major evenement of the story (only sometimes on minor things) and, for a RPG, thats very damageable.

Very good point 60% of the game are dialogue, no levelling or racing equipment (even if both equipment and level are important), and very few (but interresting) side quest, that improve immersion (I didn't like skyrim at all).

The witcher II, in the same way of game, is better.

it reminds me Drakensang!
both, I and II are very good (but online it's just a bullsh...), interesant story, all quest with good scenarii, and more important choice. Much more like a Baldur's gate game with less choice in NPC (you recruit your team on 3 of 4 npc)

I'm a huge player of PC game, recently, i have play to Game of thrones RPG, Chain of satinav, replay to "les chevalier de baphometh" (the First) (i don't know the name in english).

I recently discovered "King of the dragon pass" which is a really good STR-RPG game (only with board and dialog).

Good game i have play are also (only the best):

Warband (mount&blade) "Brytenwalda" mods (this game is strange, i never been able to end one, beacause i always boring after a few weeks of plays, but, always, after some month, i reply a new one)
Medieval total War I
NeverWinter Nights I (in french RP modules, Umeria, and Syphere, with Dugeon Master)
Baldur's gates
Age of Conan (but i'm not really fan of MMORPG, in fact, i hate leveling, race for equipment and minimaxing, But Age of conan have a really great universe, and good looking, sadly, that's not a Co-RPG, but a MMO)
Shadow of Colossus
Age of Pirates I and II
The Witcher I&II
Monkey Island
Goblins II & III
Beneath a steel sky

Tea, tea and more tea.

Sometimes at morning, sometimes at tea time ("le goûté" in french, it's not exactly the same things, a collation in afternoon). Always with some cake, cookies, or other things.
